Overuse syndromes & athletic injuries in podiatry

Overuse syndromes and injuries are commonly assessed by Podiatrists at Little Big Feet. Children and adolescents may present complaining of acute or chronic (ongoing) pain. The pain may be a result of incidental trauma or it may be induced by a specific activity or movement. Similarly, children may present with pain that is simply because of poor movement/mechanics whilst undertaking routine everyday activities.

Bone stress responses and fractures of the lower limb are also common within children and adolescents. Typically, these are brought about due to over-load or mechanical anomaly. Accurate footwear selection and prescription, is commonly coupled with a rehabilitation regime to achieve a pain-free return to activity. Depending on the scope of the presentation, podiatrists may utilise splints, boots, braces and other treatment tools to aid in minimising downtime and optimising recovery.

LBF podiatrists work closely with allied health professionals for multi-disciplinary care to ensure the best outcome for our patients with sports related injuries.
